1853™ India
1853™ India is a railway building game using the 18XX game system, set in imperial India. It was originally published in 1989 by Hartland Trefoil. Contrary to many other 18XX games, 1853 does not require aggressive stock trading, but skills in engineering the best possible routes.

Rules Variants and Designer Notes

December 15, 2009

Starting in 2010 Mayfair Games will be regularly publishing rules variants and designer notes on our website. At the beginning of the year we anticipate posting rules variants for Horus™. We are working with some of our designers on additional rules variants, designer notes and “expansions” so keep an eye on this newsletter and the website.

To whet your appetite, here is a rules variant for one of our newest games, Le Boomb™:

If the die holder has the boomb and roles a boomb on the die, the player may give the boomb to any other player.

Giving the Gift of Play

December 15, 2009

December is the traditional season of gift-giving. What I like about giving the gift of games is that it is a gift that almost always gives back immediately. After all, it makes sense that we tend to want to give games that we have played and enjoy. Also, it is often easier to learn a game from someone walking us through the rules then it is sitting and reading the rules for ourselves. So not only can we give the gift of a game to a friend or family member, we give the gift of teaching the game. Because most games need more than one player, we can also give the gift of time when we play the game with the gift receiver. And this is when the gift giver gets a gift back; we get to play a game that we love with the people we like. That is, in my opinion, the perfect gift.

If you are looking for last minute game gifts, here are some games that are easy to learn and fun to play:

Atlantis™:

Atlantis Easy to understand and play (while hiding a depth of strategy) this Leo Colovini game is great for both adults and kids.

ASI5753 Atlantis™

Le Boomb™:

Le boombThis is a perfect stocking stuffer and enjoyable for most ages. At $4.50, the price is right and the fun’s outta sight.

MFG73101 Le Boomb™

La Strada™:

La Strada A Martin Wallace classic that is accessible for most ages and packs a lot of fun into a short 30-minute play time.

MFG3304 La Strada™

Hey! That’s my Fish!™:

Hey! That’s My FishA great game for younger gamers, this game has enough strategy for the older members of the family. And it comes with DELUXE penguins!

Steam Barons & Locomotive Set are Here!

November 25, 2009

The new supplements for the Steam Game line have arrived! Steam Barons
Steam Barons™ is the first supplemental release for the Steam line.

Most importantly there is a whole new way to play Steam, instead of players only running a single company they now compete for ownership of the various companies with the primary shareholder in each company deciding the actions of that company each turn. As the game progresses the fortunes of the various companies will fluctuate, it is up to you to decide when to invest and when to cash in your shares.

There are two new maps designed with six player games in mind and additional track tiles to ensure that the supply is unlikely to run out. The two maps are of the North of England and the majority of the USA East of the Rocky Mountains.

This game also contains wooden train markers that can be used to mark track ownership instead of the disks in the Base and Standard Steam game.

MFG4552 Steam Barons™ – Martin Wallace’s Expansion
